Meta-Search Engines tutorial
- by
UC Berkeley - Teaching Library Internet Workshops
(Note from
LemmeFindSM:
Actually, while the folks at UC Berkeley Teaching Library
now have a not-so-positive opinion about meta search in
general, we're still listing their page here, to demonstrate
that we have no hard feelings about their opinion

The Trouble with Meta Search
- by
Rita Vine, Librarian and Professional Researcher
(Note from
LemmeFindSM:
Excerpt from the article above: 'Consumer Web Watch
columnist Angela Gunn's article, "In Search of Disclosure"
explains how paid-for sites get mixed up with "real" search
results in meta-search tools...'
With due respect, we'd like to draw the kind attention of
Ms. Gunn as well as Ms. Vine to the fact that
database-driven - or primary - search engines mix up
paid-for results with natural - or 'real' - results as much
as meta search engines do, often without any clear
demarcation between the two classes. So, why pick on just
the metas?
Also, the page with the original article by Angela Gunn
seems to have expired at the Consumer Web Watch site, in
case somebody wants to do something about it.
Finally, we'd like to clarify one point:
LemmeFindSM's
results, as can easily be verified by running a few
searches, are absolutely free of any paid-for listings.)

Meta-search: More heads better than one?
- by
Raul Valdes-Perez, CEO and co-founded of
Vivisimo
(Note from
LemmeFindSM:
This article presents a strong counter point to all the meta
search nay-sayers, albeit, with a strong pro-meta-search
bias, as is bound to be so, coming from the CEO of a meta
search service. Nothing wrong with this, we say. Go, Raul.)

Meta Search Engines: An Introduction
- by
Chris Sharman, Executive Editor,
SearchEngineWatch.com
(Note from
LemmeFindSM:
SearchEngineWatch.com, founded by Danny Sullivan back
in 1996 and later acquired by Internet.com, is arguably the
oldest and the most comprehensive online resource dealing
with anything and everything related to the field of web
searching. Search engines, search tools, related
technologies, market trends - you name it, they've got it
covered.)

The Meta Search Engines: A Web Searcher's
Best Friends - by
Daniel Bazac, of Web-Design-in-New-York.com
(Note by
LemmeFindSM:
Originally published in 2002 and cited or syndicated by many
many libraries and others, this is one of the most detailed
articles about meta search engines that we've been able to
find on the web. Great work, Daniel, we love'ya - and not
just because you've said good things about meta search
either. ;-))

search engines related reference resources will be added
here periodically. If you know of a good one not listed
above, please let us know
